Did I get too deep? Maybe - but in the PURSUIT of Perpetual acceleration!

Perpetual Acceleration: A Blog by ATR - Introduction

What Does that Even Mean?

Estimated Read Time: 5 miNutes

First of all - welcome! Welcome to Perpetual Acceleration: A Blog by ATR . For a few years, I have said that I want to start a blog. We’ve discussed it. Kind of started on it. Then stopped. Then forgot. Then repeated that process again. And again. But this time, in the pursuit of perpetual acceleration, we’re actually doing it.

Since this idea came to be, I had a few criteria, that in my mind, the blog needed to meet:

  1. It has to serve as a foundation of a community. Hopefully a car / racing base with ambitious people excited about what’s to come each day.

  2. It can’t just be sales. Yeah, of course I want to share new products from companies I work with or ATR. But not all the time, and when I do - it needs to be interesting to you as well.

  3. Add value to your day. When you read it I want you to walk away with something that gave you knowledge, or provoked a thought, or just inspired you. OR maybe it just made you happy to read it as you read about an adventure we just took.

If all of these criteria fit something you’re looking for, then I think you’re in the right spot. You too, most likely, are a seeker of perpetual acceleration. Which leads me to explain where this name came from.

As I was drifting to sleep, mulling over the idea of a blog once again, I was thinking about how it needed a name. I wanted it to be racing related - and I LOVE acceleration. But I also wanted it to be motivating, and inspiring, because I’m perpetually looking for what’s next. And in my mid sleep drift I thought “perpetual acceleration.” And I mentally noted it as something to think about more the next day.

The more I thought, the better it got. It’s not an original concept. It’s rather a play on words, pulling from laws of physics, mixing a few ideas together, and then linking it to lifestyle concepts.

There is Perpetual Motion - the idea that an action of a device, once set t in motion would remain in motion forever, with no energy added. Cool concept - but the first and second laws of Thermodynamics disprove that. Plus, the lack of adding energy or action, and the device continuing to work, sounds rather mundane anyways, and after a while that would have to get old. Wouldn’t it? The same motion, again and again.

But then, there is Constant Acceleration - and this can be true. Basically, an object in motion is continuously changing its velocity at a constant rate. Velocity, is the rate at which an object changes its position, but it is direction aware (unlike speed). But acceleration is the rate at which an object changes its velocity. Acceleration doesn’t inherently mean you’re going some where fast, but it does mean you’re chaining how fast you get there.

Think about land speed racing vs. drag racing. Land speed - you go fast! You might experience acceleration, but most likely it’s at a much slower rate (obviously, this depends). But usually in drag racing, it’s all about acceleration - how fast can you get to the finish line! You may go fast, to get there quicker, but you can’t achieve this without acceleration. And after experiencing both forms of racing, and while I love them both, I know for a fact - acceleration is what really makes me excited, not just speed.

So long story long - yes, I meant to say that. I came up with the name Perpetual Acceleration - combining the whimsy of perpetual motion, with the love of acceleration, and the idea that technically and mathematically, while we don’t actually achieve constant acceleration in our lives, metaphorically we strive to. We are perpetually looking to accelerate forward into whatever comes next - a new job, a new achievement, a new adventure - whatever is next. Our velocity - or our speed and direction - is constantly changing, hopefully without stopping and hopefully in a forward motion. And while we might find lulls in motivation or pauses in moving forward, hopefully this is a place to remind you and re-spark the idea that we’re on the quest for what’s next in the best way possible.

Speaking from experience, trust me when I say - don’t dive too deep into the rabbit hole of constant speed, perpetual motion, the laws of thermodynamics, the definition of acceleration, or velocity, or speed - becuase if you do you’re going to slow down your perpetual acceleration for the day. Instead - take the idea and run with it and embrace it for what it initially sounds like - which to me is constantly moving forward, even if the speed and direction you’re going change!

And THAT is where the name came from. But from here on out, you can expect less physics lessons, and more recounts of trips and adventures we take, projects we dive into, thoughts of the day or week, or maybe just a hint of motivational story telling here and there.

Thanks again for following along with this new adventure - we can’t wait to perpetually accelerate with you 😉
